Davie Jamieson Design was born out of a love for the natural form of bits of wood.

 

I have worked in the joinery trade for 26 years and have enjoyed a varied career using my hands every day for practical work, an aspect of my job that I love, but fundamentally joinery and building work is just my bread and butter. I want to truly love what I do and launching Davie Jamieson Design is my leap of faith into doing just that.

High quality craftsmanship is at the heart of each individual piece I create.  The shape, grain and texture of each piece of wood I use inspires and informs the design. My aim is to celebrate a beautiful natural material and treat it with tender loving care to emphasise that natural beauty. The handmade nature of my designs compliments the reality that no two bits of wood are the same: each design is inherently unique.

Davie became interested in woodwork and joinery at a young age. He enrolled for a Joinery Apprenticeship at the Shetland College at the age of 16 and served his time with D.I.T.T., one of Shetland's largest building contractors. But his interest in high quality craftsmanship drew him away from the building trade and led him to become a luthier for Kenny Johnson at Skyinbow for 3 years. After a short spell as a CAD technician with R. G. Jamieson Consulting Engineers, Davie decided to become self employed and co-founded DnK Joiners with his late father, Kenny, in 2003. Since then he has enjoyed a busy career both designing and building everything from houses and kitchens, to staircases and fire surrounds, decking and extensions, and continues to do so.
